The Thursday Night Live season begins next week

Downtown Jefferson City’s Summer Concert Series returns to the intersection of High and Madison Streets next week.

The first Thursday Night Live of the year begins May 19 with headlining Shiloh Country Band. The gates open at 6:30 p.m., the opening act Ross Steiner enters the stage at 7 p.m

Event organizer Angela Nale, who serves on the board of directors of the Downtown Jefferson City Association, said numerous downtown bars and restaurants are participating in the event, although some are going through a transition. As examples, she cited Spectator’s, which closed earlier this year but will reopen as a new store later in the year; Bar Vino, which is working on opening Bar Whiskey downtown soon; and Gotham Grill, a comic-books-themed cafe that opened downtown earlier this year after closing its location in the governor’s office building in 2020.

For this first Thursday Night Live of the season, Nale said the emphasis is just on the concert.

“We still want to get everyone out there and have a good time,” she said. “It’s just the basics for May, but we’re hoping to spice it up in June.”

Local 90’s R&B and hip-hop party band Dope A** Sneakers will perform at Thursday Night Live on June 16th with support act These Guys.

There is no July event with resources downtown all dedicated to the Salute to America celebration on July 4th. In August, Nale said Missouri stompgrass band The Kay Brothers will perform on August 18. She has yet to secure the September act but is looking for a rock band. The final Thursday Night Live of the season takes place on September 15th.

As the season progresses, Nale said to keep an eye on the Thursday Night Live Facebook page for more announcements, as she hopes to add themes or special activities to some of the later events. In previous years there have been taco nights, wing nights and a beach party.

“The whole point of Thursday Night Live is to bring awareness downtown and get people downtown to see what we have to offer and to eat, drink and be merry,” said Nale.

Admission to Thursday Night Live is $2 for 4-12 year olds; Ages 13 and up are admitted for $5. A wristband and beverage mug are included for guests aged 21 and over. Anyone under the age of 16 must stay with a parent or legal guardian.
