The Three Sisters Lions Club Christmas Market features art and other works by talented C. Oregonians

Holiday Faire showcases talent across central Oregon

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) – For those who want thoughtful gifts for friends and family over the holiday season, the Three Sisters Lions Club is holding a 10th year showcasing art from across the central Oregon community at the Three Sisters Lions Club Christmas Market.

You can find a variety of jellies and handcrafted kitchen decorations at the event.

But that hardly scratches the surface.

“We have hand-blown glass, we have woodworking,” said event co-organizer Kathleen Davis on Sunday. “We have a new supplier this year who does our metalwork. He’s totally local. “

This year Christmas, which began on November 26th, shows art and other works from 33 vendors until December 18th. The event returned after COVID-19 forced its cancellation a year ago.

Lorna Myers is a saleswoman whose craft is sewing and quilting. She calls her main product Bernie Styles Wool Mittens.

“I recycle old wool sweaters or wool-blend sweaters, make mittens out of them, and put a fleece lining in them, and they’re super great, super warm,” said Myers.

She said it all started when she made a pair of mittens for a friend two years ago. People liked her and inquiries came in. Now she’s decided to do them around the clock.

“They kept calling me and saying, ‘You need more mittens! You need more mittens! ‘ This is really my first year selling mittens and I think I’ve sold around 50 pairs, “Myers said.

She also makes other items by hand.

“I use leftover Pendleton wool that was left over from the outlet and make zippered bags out of the Pendleton wool,” she said.

And that is where their creativity does not end. She also uses leftover fleece to make a colorful range of woolen neck gaiters.

As inquiries come in and demand grows, Myers says she’s also looking for patterns for kids’ mittens.

Being environmentally conscious, she added that her craft prevents fewer things from ending up in the landfill.

Davis points out that the raffle is another unique feature of the event.

“The raffle baskets will be donated to us, individual products through Sisters dealers,” said Davis. “And then I put it together and we’re giving it away. We have everything from a package for a hoodoo for skiing, to a children’s birthday party at Cascade Indoor Sports with motorway tickets, to golf packages. “

Amid all the colorful and artistic entertainment, Davis underscores the reason the Christmas market is held.

A portion of the proceeds that the vendors receive will go to the Three Sisters Lions Club to support various community needs.

“We’re raising funds for the Lions’ seeing and hearing (program),” said Davis. “We have to help the people who need and are looking for glasses and hearing aids and work with the diabetics. We also give scholarships to the seniors who are leaving and try to get more of the children who go to work instead of the four-year colleges, just to give them some help because they don’t get as much money as the others. “
