TEXARKANA, Texas–Hundreds of seniors gathered Friday morning to explore all that Townsquare Media’s 23rd annual Senior Expo had to offer at the Texarkana Convention Center.
“People my age need to think about how they are planning for the last phase of their lives,” said event organizer Andi Darby. “We feel like a channel between those who have the products and services and those who need them.”
Darby said about 65 vendors were present at the event, which featured a variety of booths featuring respit and home care, hospitals, hearing assessments and probate attorneys.
Kattie Thomas came to the event with her friends and enjoyed the photo booth with props provided by Cowhorn Creek Estates retirement home.
“I came here for health reasons,” said Thomas. “I have diabetes and there are so many goodies here too.”
Tommy and Valerie Lindsey received a free hearing screening from the Gilliam Hearing Center.
“We’ve never been there because we both worked a lot during the day,” said Valerie Lindsey. “But we both recently retired and decided to come out and see what the fuss is about — and collect the free items.”
Business Developer Katie Stone led the booth of the law firm of Ross and Schoalmire. Passing by seniors often stopped to play PLINKO and win prizes like a jar opener.
“This has always been a great place to see as many seniors as possible at once,” Stone said. “We do elder law and estate planning, probate and things like that. We are happy that things are personal again.”
Super Bingo was a big draw, which came as a pleasant surprise to first-time entrant Trace Smith.
“We’ve been in town for 34 years and we have nine charities that work with us,” Smith said.
