What do Olympic sports, sword swallowing and live music have in common? They were highlights of last Friday evening #FunonFifth Event in Bay Ridge!
members of Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue BID — including the executive director Amanda Zenteno — welcomed thousands of families to the first of several #FunonFifth events taking place “on the avenue” throughout the summer and into fall. The event featured live music and entertainment throughout the pedestrian mall constructed between 72nd and 85th Streets.
Outside popular restaurants, bands like The Rigbees and Lords of the Fjords listed for patrons who enjoyed al fresco dining and drinking. As families walked down the street, many stopped and gathered to enjoy notable attractions like this Brooklyn Curling Center, which had a mini Olympic-style curling surface for children and adults to try their luck. Further down professional supporting actor Adam Realman blinded a large crowd of onlookers by swallowing a sword. Rides and games were set up along the avenue, and there was also a heavy art presence.
event manager Chip Cafe told us that the event went exceptionally well.
“We had a really nice evening,” he said. “There were lots of things to do and things to see, plus the bands drew big crowds at each location. It gave families the opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy all that Fifth Avenue has to offer.”
The #FunonFifth event is part of the Open Streets 2022 initiative brought to Bay Ridge through the efforts of BID along with Councilmembers Justin Brannan and the Third Avenue Civic Improvement Association, Inc. dealers The next edition is scheduled for September 30th.
