LG launches 5 smart TVs for cruise ships

LG Business Solutions USA has announced the launch of a range of smart TVs specifically designed for cruise and crew cabins.

According to a press release, the models are available in class sizes 43, 32, 28, 24 and 22 inches. The voice-controlled televisions connected via Wi-Fi enable cruise ships to “offer a variety of services and entertainment options in every cabin size”.

These Pro: Centric Smart TVs also offer specialized service menus that enable ship operators to create “bespoke digital experiences,” said LG Business Solutions USA.

“As cruise companies begin to welcome their valued guests back, our cruise TVs provide a hosted, carefree digital environment where guests can easily navigate digital video programs and ship-related information,” said Mike Kosla, vice president of hospitality, LG Business Solutions USA. “Our cruise TV line will benefit both cruise companies and passengers with increased functionality, simplified operation and a significantly improved guest experience just in time for their return to sea.”

According to the press release, the Pro: Centric software offers a number of important features for cruise environments, such as support for 39 languages, one-click service tools, webOS 4.5 smart TV functions, remote system administration and templates and pages for custom screen interfaces, to provide information and services to guests.

The TV line also enables cruise lines to enable wireless streaming of music and video content from passengers’ mobile devices and laptops using Smart Share, Screen Share and Bluetooth Sound Sync technologies.

All five cruise ship TV models also include the Pro: Idiom digital rights management system, which enables access to “high quality content” while helping to prevent video piracy, said LG Business Solutions USA. LG’s protective coating on critical circuitry is designed to protect televisions from extremely low or high temperatures, dust, moisture and salty air in the harsh marine environment.

For cruise ship applications that require larger TV sizes, LG also offers a full line of smart TVs for the hospitality industry ranging from 49 to 75 inches diagonally. According to the press release, these models with built-in hotel TV functions can be used “from bow to stern” in luxury suites and other hospitality applications.
