Inaugural Festival of Lights Monroe County

GILBERT, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE / WYOU) – At the first Festival of Lights at the West End Fairgrounds in Monroe County everyone was able to enjoy the lights, food and drinks.

“Well, that started at my house eight years ago and I just decided to get bigger and better,” said organizer Todd Merkel. “In the first third of the year, you know, March, April, we think about it, so it’s a year-round planning event. There are over a hundred thousand. They are LED and some of them are RGB pixels. We knew that with the resources we had, we had to get as big as possible and we believe we made it successfully. “

“Oh, the lights show that they are amazing. You really have all the basics covered. It’s a great way to experience the spirit of the season. It’s the first thing we did that made me feel like it was Christmas, ”said Allentown’s Tom Leauber.

“It feels great to see everyone having a good time out here and it’s stress free. You can walk around and enjoy the lights at your own pace. Merry Christmas and come out and enjoy the lights and be safe, ”said Merkel.

Admission to the Festival of Lights is $ 6. It is open until December 30th, with the exception of closing on Christmas Eve and Christmas.
