Nadiya Hussain launches WaterAid appeal
TV chef Nadiya Hussain MBE supports a new WaterAid call to bring clean water and toilets to schools.
The charity’s Call for Knowledge will be complemented by UK Government donations of up to £ 2 million between November 16 and February 15, 2022.
Great British bake-off winner Hussain on Tuesday launched WaterAid’s new appeal to bring clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to 30 schools in the Bardiya district of Nepal and to provide vital facilities to 28,000 people.
The author and cook, who witnessed the reality of life without clean water on her visit to Bangladesh, said: “Every mother wants to give her children the best start in life, but millions of parents around the world have no choice but to their children in a school with no clean water or toilets.
“Not only does this endanger the health of your children; it is particularly harmful to girls and traps entire communities into poverty. Without these basic equipment, another generation of girls and young women will be left behind.
“The good news is that water can be an incredible catalyst for lasting change. With clean water, toilets and soap in the schools, girls can complete their education and grow up on an equal footing, with the chance of a higher income and a better future for themselves and their families. “
