A celebration of the 60thth Birthdays for a group of friends intensified into an epic summer party on Saturday, July 30th at Palliser Regional Park on the shores of Lake Diefenbaker.

Eby and several friends had already planned a private party for the August long weekend. It was a group of 60th Celebrating birthdays and a party seemed appropriate. The organizers then discovered that 2022 also happened to be the 60thth birthday of the park itself.

“Aaron Ruston from the band The UnCoolas contacted me about 3 months ago and said the band wanted to play at our park (Palliser Regional Park) this summer and we could make something happen. And I said, ‘Absolutely!’” said Heather Eby, the organizer of the event.

“The UnCoolas played at Palliser Park a few years ago and really enjoyed it,” explained Ruston. “I spoke to Heather Eby once and asked if they had any events because I’d love to bring the UnCoolas and just rock it for the night.”

Coincidentally, Ruston also turned 60 this year. Once he figured out the purpose of the occasion, the plan was cemented.

The park has recently added a large deck to the camp kitchen which provides a perfect stage for the UnCoolas to play under the summer evening sky.

The band is a group of experienced professional musicians who have toured North America in various lineups. Two of them were also charter members of Men Without Shame and the Regina-based Blazers.

“The band itself has probably been around for 16 or 17 years,” Ruston said. “I’ve been with the band for about 13 years. We do everything from classic rock to more modern stuff and of course country. We’ve played on a lot of different courses, that’s for sure, so yes, come out, it’s going to be fun!”

Moose Jaw’s Johnny Beam will also be there for the evening with his Taco Time Food Truck. The menu includes one-pound Dorito burritos, tacos in a bag, taco dogs, dilly dogs, and regular dogs.

The band starts around 8:30 am. A cash bar will be available on site.

Advance tickets are sold out, but tickets are still available at the box office for $20 per person.
