Bloq Party on the Queensway promises a fun family day | things to do

Shop the Queensway BIA will present a day of great food, music, art and family-focused activities at its first Bloq Party on the Queensway this Saturday 27th August from 11am to 8pm

The main cast includes North American DJ Hall of Fame inductee Carl Allen, five-time Juno nominee Ammoye Evans and festival host Najjah Calibur, who is notably one of the official hosts of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“After a two-year hiatus, we wanted to create an event that would provide an opportunity for all of us to reconnect as a community,” Bloq Party on the Queensway curator Enza Ruscillo said in a press release. “From world-class performances, health and wellness programs, the Kids Zone to live art presentations – there really is something for visitors of all ages.”

Music enthusiasts from across the city will enjoy live performances from three up-and-coming talents:

• Ammoye Evans – reggae singer and five-time Juno Award nominee;

• Chandra Chach Raye – singer/songwriter and disco performer;

• and Jenna Nation — R&B sensation.

A variety of DJs will keep the music pumping throughout the day including:

• Carl Allen: Contemporary Rock & Mashups from the 50’s to the 90’s;

• Gmoney, Juan Jaramillio: freestyle, salsa and classical house music;

• Die Schmuks: Lounge – hopping house music;

• Chico U: new wave, classic 90’s funk, R&B and house music;

• Rob DaBoom: Happy – bouncy house music;

• and Gio Cristiano: funk, soul, lounge vibes.

Festival-goers will also be treated to live pop-up art presentations by visual artists Andres Correa, Ford Medina and Shawn Skeir.

Drag curator Rolyn Chambers is also bringing two drag performances with Season 1’s Call Me Mother star Sanjina and talented Toronto drag queens Las Rose and Ophelia Manson.

The party continues with signature cocktails in the bar area, a boho picnic area, vendors offering a variety of foods, baked goods and desserts, and a pet portrait zone hosted by the Etobicoke Humane Society. Vendors offering a range of fashion, jewelry and unique novelties will sell their wares throughout the festival.

To support the Daily Bread Food Bank, the festival is offering a 50/50 drawing and a silent auction. Visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation.
