Auditions for a new Christmas ballet based on the poem “The Night Before Christmas” have been scheduled for August 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Ballet Aligned Studios at 1115 North, 200 East in Logan.
LOGAN – Auditions have been scheduled for Thursday, August 25th for a new Christmas ballet.
This ballet will be an original work based on the famous poem by Clement C. Moore The night before Christmas.
It will be first unveiled in December to benefit the Little Lambs Foundation, a local non-profit organization that provides diapers and baby accessories and care kits to low-income families for children placed in foster care.
These auditions will be held Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Ballet Aligned Studios at 1115 North, 200 East in Logan. Prior online registration is required at www.balletaligned.com/the-night-before-christmas/
According to Steffanie Casperson, director of Ballet Aligned, all types of dancers and performers are invited to audition. Dance roles are guaranteed for dancers aged 5-12 who are engaged in class and rehearsals.
“That’s the beauty of doing something original‘ explains Kasperson. “When restaging well-known classics, you have limited children’s roles and are committed to tradition.
“A new performance can be more intimate and interactive for the audience. The dance itself can pick up each dancer where he or she is and challenge them to get better.”
The new holiday production’s storyline will be co-developed by Casperson and Joel Ackerman, writer/editor/producer and current creative director at Angel Studios.
“Joel is a master storyteller,” said Casperson. “I happen to know that he’s also a big ballet fan. So I asked him to help with the story so it could have a deeper emotional impact and share a message of hope.”
The money raised by ticket sales for The night before Christmas go directly to the Little Lambs Foundation. Donations of shampoo, conditioner and body wash for the Little Lambs comfort kits will be accepted at Ballet Aligned Studios on the night of the auditions on August 25th.
Performance dates will be announced once a venue is secured, Casperson said.
“A ballet is a complete artistic collaboration‘ added Casperson. “It takes music; Tell stories; acting; the craftsmanship of set and costume builders; and of course the dance itself.
“We hope that everyone who has a desire to grow, improve and share their talents will be a part of this production in some way.”
According to their website, Ballet Aligned is an organization dedicated to manufacturing Better ballet more accessible.
It offers mini-sessions that give young dancers a first taste of classical ballet; master classes with professional dancers; and community engagement to help parents, students, and teachers expand their expertise in this art form.
