Two days after six family members, including four children, were found dead in an empty apartment at Vatva GIDC in Ahmedabad, police said brothers Gaurang Patel and Amrish Patel owed banks Rs 32 lakh in personal loans and a home loan , car loan, gold loan and credit cards.
According to police, Gaurang and Amrish were distraught over the outstanding payment of various loans and this may be the reason they took the extreme step of allegedly killing their four children and then themselves.

Her financial situation deteriorated and her livelihood was also depleted. We found that Gaurang had 37 bank accounts, 23 of which were active, and his wife had eight bank accounts. Amrish had six accounts and his wife also had six accounts. The two brothers owed banks a total of Rs.32,000 in personal loans, a home loan, a car loan, a gold loan and credit cards. For all these loans, the brothers had mentioned the correspondence address of the Shree Prayosha residence, which they left in December,” said Rajpalsinh Rana, Deputy Police Commissioner of Division “J”.
Police found Gaurang, 40, son Dhruv Patel, 12, daughter Shanvi Patel, 7, Gaurang’s older brother Amrish, 42, son Mayur Patel, 12, and daughter Kirti Patel, 9, dead in apartment B – found. 708 of the Shree Prayosha Residency Society, near Sardar Patel Ring Road in Vinzol in the GIDC Vatva area of the city, in the early hours of June 19. The apartment was locked from the inside after the wives of both brothers reported a missing persons complaint. The wives had claimed that their husbands got out with their children on June 17 and said they would meet outside for dinner.
Gaurang lived in a rented apartment in the Vatva area with his wife and two children, although he owned an apartment in the Vatva GIDC. Amrish lived with his family in a rented house at Patel Niwas in Hathijan village in rural Ahmedabad. According to family members of the deceased, Gaurang worked as a contract manager at a clothing company in Vatva and Amrish Patel worked as an Ola taxi driver.
“The brothers had a great bond and they made all decisions, personal and business, together. In the past, both have been in the clothing business, but after that was unsuccessful, they took out a car loan to buy a taxi to drive for Ola,” Rana said.
“The results of the viscera test on their bodies are awaited and our probe is on,” Rana added.
